Kisumu is set have its first Vincentian Prayer house that will serve Catholic faithful in Western region.
The prayer house which was launched on Thursday at Buoye, near Consolata Animation Centre will serve dioceses in Eldoret, Kakamega, Kisii, Kitale, Bungoma, Lodwar and Homabay counties.
Speaking during the launching Archbishop Zaccheus Okoth said the art he consulted estimated that the roofing and wood for the construct of the prayer will cost about Sh2 million.
"I have already received sh.300,000 for the roofing of the Vincentian Prayer House," said Archbishop Okoth.
He added: "The roofing of the prayer house is courtesy of the Vincentian Fathers. The wood used to construct the chapel will be purchased by them. That is the first instalment and believe well-wishers will help in building the prayer centre."
He said the construction and foundation of the prayer should begin immediately.
"This centre is in Kisumu it will be a place of bringing spiritual peace and joy. I thanked the Vincentian Father for coming to set up a centre and being apostolic journey," he said. Provincial Superior Vincentian Congregation Rev Father Paul Puthuva said that the establishment of the centre was long awaited and at last it has become a reality to have retreat centre in Kisumu County.
The Vincentian Ministries have a prayer house and retreat centre in Lavington and Thika respectively.
