Kisumu County government will soon carry out an audit of various buildings in the lakeside county, as a security measure.
Speaking in Kisumu on Wednesday, Kisumu County deputy governor Dr. Mathews Owili said the audit will endeavor to ensure safety and security in dwelling places, among them hotels and guest houses.
“We now have a new County Executive Officer (CeC) in charge of Physical planning and urban development Mr. Nerry Achar and one of the briefs he has is to carry out an audit of all the buildings we have in Kisumu County,” said the deputy governor.
His sentiments came shortly after two people were confirmed dead and a host of others left with various injuries, following a fire outbreak at guest house in Kondele on Wednesday morning.
On his part, Mr. Nerry Acahr urged residents of Kisumu County and Kisumu City in particular to join hands with the county government as they create a just and safe City.
He said they need to and bring down unsafe buildings and create access roads to enable evacuation in the event of a fire tragedy or when a building collapses.
“We will require a lot of your cooperation because when we are trying to enforce some of these conditions such as bringing down unsafe buildings, and creating access roads, we normally face resistance from the people. We are immediately going to start the audit of infrastructure,” he said.
