Kisumu County residents has challenged the county government to educate locals on disaster response to help them in times of disasters like floods and fire among others.
Speaking on Saturday at RedCross offices in Kisumu, the county disaster management response expert Alvince Omwanda noted that the county government in collaboration with Red Cross need to organise forums on disaster preparedness.
Expert Omwanda noted that disasters come unexpectedly and the locals need to have preparedness skills for proper escape or exit during such emergencies.
For emergencies preparedness to be enhanced in the region, we need to educate the locals by allocating funds for several seminars to educate the locals on the same.
“Disaster preparedness education is essential as it prepares one for emergencies. Well trained locals on emergency preparedness always find ways of survival,” said Omwanda.
He further stated that most of the society members are not informed on various escape or emergency exit plan which is very dangerous for human life.
Omwanda asked the locals to attend such forums when such platforms will be established through emergency preparedness plan for their own survival safety.
His colleague Joseph kibet also challenged that locals lacked such education asking the county government to see that its locals are fully prepared for disaster emergencies to avoid unnecessary deaths resulting from such disasters.
