A Kisumu gender sociologist has challenged the county government to provide civic education to its locals.

Florence Atera, speaking at Kisumu Hotel on Thursday, challenged the Kisumu county government to improve its local’s awareness by conducting civic education to them.

Atera noted that civic education needed to be enhanced by allocating funds in creating educative forums to the locals stating that such forums would improve the locals’ social awareness.

She further emphasized that civic education was meant to equip the locals’ in acquiring proper knowledge on politics and how to go about them.

According to Atera most of the locals lacked information and proper knowledge on civic matters, challenging  both leaders and the county government to conduct such forums as they were more educative and shaped locals ways of thinking.

“Let’s educate our locals on civic matters. We can only do that by allocating funds for civic education for them to acquire knowledge from the education,” said Atera.

Kisumu civic education analyst Evance Milando also noted that the county government had allegedly not done enough in educating its locals.

He urged the locals to attend civic education forums so that they can gain the relevant knowledge.
