Kisumu County Women MCAs have come up with a move to table a motion to empower women and allocate funds to support them in starting small scale businesses.

The move is aimed at reducing high rate of dependency ratio caused by unemployment.

Speaking at Tom Mboya Labour College on monday at a conventional meeting meant to improve the social welfare of the locals, nominated MCA Farida Salim urged other counterparts to support motion aimed at empowering women.

Salim supported the move by stating that through women empowerment, economy would have been enhanced by ditching the dependency ratio gap through self employment.

“An empowered local is a strong tool to improve an economy I urge my colleagues int he house to support the motion when it will be proposed, since it would improve women’s social welfare as the vulnerable in the society,” said Salim.

Nominated MCA Violet Makhanu also supported the move and urged other counterparts to re-energise and support the motion. Makhanu echoed that it is through allocation of funds and empowerment that women vulnerability would be enhanced.

“Let us empower locals especially women by allocating funds and empowering them to help curb high dependency ratio hence ditching high rate of unemployment,” added Makhanu.

Another nominated MCA Caroline Awour Ogot stated that the move was very economical and urged fellow members of the house to ensure that the participate in seeing that the motion pass through.

Ogot also noted that an empowered citizen was economy friendlier as locals are empowered hence creating job opportunities for themselves.
