Chief magistrate Esther Maina ordered that Mina Beketi, Luseli Karimati and Gabresa Kabedi be remanded in prison for one more week in order to allow the prosecution finalise investigations in the case.

The three Ethiopian nationals were arrested last week on Saturday at a Kisumu hotel by police who were notified by the management after their activities became suspicious.

They are alleged to have been barring staff from conducting room services such as cleaning and when the police were called in, it was discovered that they did not have any Kenyan identification documents from the immigration department.

The three are believed to have been in the country for the past one month and staying at the hotel.

During the Friday mention, the prosecution had objected the bail application on the grounds that they are a flight risk and also investigation on their mission was still going on.

In denying the bail application, Maina said that the conduct of the three meant that they were a risk.

“From the prosecution side, going by the conduct of the accused, if granted bail they might run away. This court therefore remands them for seven days,” said Maina.
