The order came after Mohammed Sajid, Saifi Shahzad, Mohammed Salman, Gulzar Farhan and Hussein Shalid from India opted to pay a fine of Ksh70,000 each for the two counts of being in the country illegally and working without a permit.

Chief Magistrate Lucy Gitari ruled that the five leave the country within the next seven days or process the necessary documents at the Immigration Department to extend their stay.

“The accused have committed a serious offence and this court finds them guilty of both charges. However, having pleaded guilty, this court will treat them with leniency,” said the magistrate.

The court heard that the five jetted into the country on September 17 for holiday and were issued with temporary passports which were not renewed upon expiry.

It further heard that they were arrested at Kisumu City’s Aga Khan Hall where they were conducting business exhibitions for profit without permit.

On the first count each was fined Sh50,000 or one year jail term while on the second count they were fined Sh20,000 each or a jail term of six months.
