Kisumu East District Commissioner Moses Ole Tutui has assured candidates in the area that they will not be affected by floods in the event of heavy downpours.
In an interview with this writer on Thursday, Ole Tutui said the disaster management committee in the district has put up measures to ensure that the exams go on as planned.
“We have actually looked for very strong vehicles which can reach any part of this district. We do not anticipate any problem in terms of examination papers distribution,” said the administrator.
He said the Ministry of Education officials in the area are on high alert to move candidates to higher grounds in case of flooding.
He urged community members living on lower grounds, to be ready to move to safer grounds in the event that the area witnesses flooding as a result of heavy rainfall.
Kisumu is among several counties in the country that are prone to flooding.
Areas which are mostly affected during floods in the county are Nyakach, Nyamasaria, Nyando and Muhoroni.
In February this year, Kisumu county government started flood mitigation programmes, among them de-silting major rivers and streams within the county.
