Shabir, an Orange Democratic Movement member said the amendments could not have passed to the committee stage if opposition Members of Parliament were up to their roles.

Shabir said the amendments are draconian and will take the country back to the dark days as he urged President Uhuru not to allow such a law in the country.

“Kenyans should not be dragged back to the dark days when people were being arrested discriminately without any offence,” he said.

Speaking in Kisumu, the legislature said opposition Members of Parliament are always compromised to stay away at times when their votes are required in parliament.

“Some of our Members of Parliament are being bought cheaply to defeat good cause and I urge the president to listen to Kenyans,” he said.

His Nyando counterpart Fred Outa said the new amendments will water down the gains the country had achieved in the new constitution.

Outa promised to continue disrupting the assembly session until the MPs sober up to realise that the amendments will infringe on the rights of Kenyans.

“The county had achieved a lot with the introduction of the new constituency and this amendment should not be allowed since it will interfere with our freedom,” he said.

He said if the Bill is passed without further amendments then he will move to court for redress.
