Speaking on Monday at Kisumu Sports Ground, Omollo called on the locals to be lovers of trees by planting as many trees as they can.

The environmentalist also called on the county government to assist locals in acquiring tree seedlings to accomplish that initiative.

Omollo stated that some locals were first in cutting trees and were not willing to replace them, a behaviour he said has contributed a lot to degradation of environment.

“Let us help improve our surrounding by planting trees, since trees would promote cool effect and good aeration in the surrounding, apart from aeration trees would help in shades, rain attraction among others,” noted Omollo.

His counterpart Owen Njoroge also challenged locals to form a habit of planting trees, stating that trees are very important in people’s lives.

He noted that besides tree planting environmental education should be convened in schools, communities to upgrade the locals’ view on environment.
