Kisumu Directorate of Green Energy and Climate change Lorna Omuodo has warned of a possibility that Kisumu County is being hit by La Nina. La Nina temperatures are always very high and they take a long time before cooling down. "Kisumu is currently experiencing very high temperature - 84 degrees Fahrenheit," said Omuodo. She warned farmers against planting immediately after the rains since at that time the ground will be too hot, hence not conducive for the germination process. Omuodo said that La Nina season is in most times accompanied by drought. She appealed to drought management government officials to be watchful so that people in the region do not die of hunger. She noted that La Nina typically comes with extreme dry air, meaning there is high possibility of bacteria survival. “There is possibility that hospitals in Kisumu will record high number of pathogenic and respiratory diseases because of the dry air," said Omuodo, adding that pathogens do mutate quickly. Kisumu is hit by tropical dry heat because it is right at the Equator.
