A fierce fire razed a classroom and a dormitory at Nyabondo Boys' Boarding Primary School in Nyakach, Kisumu county, Monday.
Pupils and area residents managed to put out the fire but were unable to salvage any property.
Jack Otieno, Nyakach sub-county Education Director, said the fire started at around 8am as pupils prepared to leave for their mid-term break.
He noted the cause had not been established but officers were assessing the damage.
Nyakach OCPD Henry Malova, who visited the school, said no causalities were reported and that they were carrying out investigations.
A task force studying last year's rampant school fires found that political interference, peer pressure, indiscipline and pressure of good grades were among the causes. The team also cited lack of intelligence gathering mechanisms and mismanagement of school resources.
The case of fire blazing in secondary schools is now a matter to react upon. Few weeks ago in Bondo sub-county, Bar-Kowino Secondary School was affected when the dormitory caught fire, leaving one student dead.
