The Kisumu County government will start paying all nursery school teachers and polytechnic tutors in the county as from next month.
The County Education Executive Mr Nixon Omondi said the county government was in the process of compiling the list of all eligible teachers.
Omondi said that the process could have resumed this month but there were some challenges when compiling the list.
“We realised that our lists had irregularities earlier and it would have hampered the process,” said Omondi.
Speaking in his office on Friday, Omondi said that many nursery school teachers were finding it hard to cope with life due to poor pay by parents. “Handling young ones is not an easy task. Nursery school level is vital in shaping the future of children. In order to have a brighter future we need to ensure those handling children have a conducive environment to work,” added Omondi.
He said the county government was also in the process of hiring more nursery school teachers to curb the shortage.
“We have qualified teachers in this region who can assist. The county government has already set aside funds meant to hire such teachers as soon as possible,” said Omondi.
