Kisumu County Governor Jack Ranguma has said that he is pushing to have United States (US) President, Barrack Obama, visit Kisumu once he visits the country in July.
Ranguma said he is engaging the US ambassador to Kenya, Robert F. Godec, to have Obama extend his visit to the lakeside region.
He said Obama should make a public lecture at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu and possibly have an opportunity to visit his ancestral home in Kogelo, Siaya.
“I want the media to help me in this course of having Obama visit Kisumu,” said Ranguma.
The governor noted that such a visit would be important for Nyanza region where the Obama traces his roots.
Addressing journalists in Kisumu when he unveiled county’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) CeC, Michael Midika, Ranguma said Kisumu people are willing to have President Obama visit them.
He said the visit would remain historic as the President will land with Air force Jet 1 at the Kisumu International Airport.
“If the Air force jet lands here in Kisumu, that alone will promote tourism in the area,” said optimistic Ranguma.
President Obama is expected to travel to Kenya in July to attend the 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Summit.
This will be Obama’s first visit to Kenya since he became United States President.
