Jua Kali industry in Kisumu County has urged the county residents to consider promoting the industry by purchasing their goods to realise growth.
Speaking on Thursday morning at his workshop in Kibuye, Kibuye Jua Kali chairperson Brain Oginga, noted that there is great need for the locals to help promote the industry stating it was a great resource centre to many locals who invested in the sector.
Oginga stated that the industry stood a chance to empower most of the locals who lacked job opportunities by giving them skills, hence promoting their social well being economically by creating for them job opportunities.
According to him, the county government also needed to hugely invest in jua-kali industry by marketing their products to have ready market available, adding that funding them too will have a great impact since many citizens would be employed to reduce dependency ratio in the county.
“We need to build institutions to help reduce the rate of unemployment. If properly managed, the Jua Kali sector can house a great number of locals through acquiring skills hence opening their on jobs.
To promote this, the locals are challenged to frequently have passion in purchasing the Jua Kali made goods not only to promote them but to also create employment to the unemployed,” said Oginga.
Other Jua Kali personnel Robinson Odhach also stated that the sector needed to be supported since it is a major employer to lots of the locals. He also asked the county government to deem such ventures.
Odhach at the same time called upon the area youths to venture into the Jua Kali sector and not to just sit back at home in the name of no any desired employment opportunity for them.
