Leaders from Kisumu and Kericho counties have convened a series of peace meetings between Thursday and Saturday to address conflict along the border of the two counties.
The meetings that will be conducted in Sondu, Chemelil and Muhoroni aims at preaching peace along the Kisumu-Kericho border, just a few months after members of the Luo and Kalenjin communities clashed in Muhoroni.
In December, Governor Anyang Nyong'o (Kisumu) and his Kericho counterpart Paul Chepkwony held similar meetings in Kericho town after violent clashes that followed the repeat election which President Uhuru Kenyatta won.
The two governors, then, appealed to the residents of Kericho and Kisumu leaving along the border to maintain peace despite their political differences.
Residents living along the Kisumu-Kericho border are politically divided where those in Kisumu support the opposition while the ones in Kericho side support the Jubilee administration led by President Kenyatta.
The December clashes followed similar fightings that were witnessed along the Kisumu-Nandi county border where more than ten people were killed.
The clashes were occasioned by accusations from residents of Kisumu that youth from Nandi had crossed the border and stole cattle from Kisumu farmers.
The fighting was contained after leaders from the two counties met and resolved to end the border crisis.
