Kisumu County security team has planned a meeting with their Kericho counterparts on Thursday to find a lasting solution to cattle rustling along the Kisumu-Kericho border.
Kisumu County Commissioner John Elungata said they have managed to contain cattle rustling in Nyakach and want their counterparts to join in the fight.
Elungata said the general security in Kisumu city has been contained and cattle rustling was now the only threat.
“As a security team we have managed to bring cases of insecurity in the lakeside city down, what is now remaining are cases of cattle rustling in Nyakach, but I want to assure you that we are up to the task,” he said.
However, he announced that for the last fortnight, there has been no cattle rustling reported in Nyakach.
Speaking on Wednesday during the celebration to mark Madaraka Day in Kisumu, Elungata said the aim is to permanently deal with cattle rustling in the area.
He announced that a spiritual leader who has been praying for the cattle rustlers had been arrested in Kericho.
The commissioner said the spiritual leader referred to as “Oloibon” will be arraigned in court after investigations.
“We know spiritual leaders do not pray for people to go and steal but we will be arraigned him in court,” he said.
He said close collaboration between the two security teams from the two counties coupled with Nyumba Kumi initiative will eventually bring lasting peace along the troubled border.
