Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisumu branch has elected Zablon Awange as its executive secretary.
Awange managed to get 470 votes while his close competitor John Adulo got 320 votes with Kephas Oguwi coming third with 180 votes. He hailed the process that was very peaceful held at Ahero Multipurpose hall in Nyando.
“I am very happy that the elections were conducted in a peaceful atmosphere and I want to thank teachers for the mature behaviour,” he said.
He said that he will ensure that he unites Kisumu County KUPPET teachers to work as a team for the property of education.
Speaking to the press on Saturday after his election, Awange said that he will ensure that all that he pledged to do during the campaigns will be done.
He said that soon KUPPET Kisumu branch will have a bus that will be hired out to the members in subsidised rates.
Awange said that benevolent fund will be well managed to give members proper send off in case of death.
He said that the push to pay allowances to teachers in hardship areas will be in his agenda and promised teachers to give him support during his 5 years term.
“Teachers must know that under my term I will strive to ensure some of the challenges they are facing are adequately addressed,” he said.
