Kisumu County Building Audit Official, Owen Wanjala, speaking today at Huduma Centre challenged house owners to allocate resources to renovating old buildings.

This comes after a building collapsed in the area leaving two people with injuries.

According to the audit official most of the houses that were built earlier needed renovation as they posed a threat to human life stating that some looked like museums yet locals were leaving in them.

He called upon landlords to check with architects on proper design on their houses and make sure their houses were stable and fit for human stay.

“House owners should frequently contact architects and see to it that houses that are old fashioned require renovation are properly constructed in order not to pose a threat to human life,” said Wanjala.

His counterpart Anne Njeri, reiterated that old fashioned buildings needed to be built or renovated to become fit for stay.
