The senator died shortly after arriving at Mater hospital in Nairobi on Tuesday night.

Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga described the fallen senator as a leader who was dedicated to serve Kenyans.

“Kajwang was a key leader in the fight for reforms and development in Kenya," Ms Odinga said.

"Through his trademark song ‘Mapambano’, he ensured that the Cord coalition was always on track.”

Kisumu Senator Anyang Nyongo, through his personal aide Babu Karan, described Kajwang as ‘a strong force’ in the ODM party.

“He was our Homa Bay County party chairman and was so vibrant towards warning those who were viewed as ‘moles’ within the party,” said Karan.

Minority leader Edwin Anayo described him as a political power within the Cord fraternity and said that his sudden demise was a terrible blow to the Raila-led Cord coalition.

Nominated Kisumu MCA Lydia Odhiambo said the senator survived an accident last Saturday when they were heading to an ODM meeting at Oyugis.

“His car rolled thrice leaving his driver with a broken arm.

Luckily enough, he survived and looked very strong and unharmed,” said Odhiambo.

Her nominated counterpart Farida Salim said that the ODM party has lost a leader who was very faithful to the party and asked Kenyans to pray for his family.
