Tom Nyangurima will have fourteen days to appeal the decision by Kisumu chief magistrate Esther Maina.

The court heard that, Nyangurima committed the offence on May 19 in Chemelil, Kisumu County after getting into an argument with his employer over salary payment issues.

The accused is said to have attacked Jonathan Matimu with a blunt object after he failed to pay him the agreed amount of money following a weeding job he had done.

Nyangurima was restrained by fellow workers and taken to the police.

Matimu had claimed that that the accused did not do the work as required hence the failure to pay him the agreed amount.

In passing her sentence Maina condemned the conduct of the accused.

“It is clear that the employer did not honour the deal with the accused, but taking the law into your own hands is illegal because we have proper channels of solving such disputes rather than resorting to violence,” said Maina.

In his defence, Nyangurima told the court that he was overpowered by anger which caused him to act in that manner even though his wish was to resolve the matter peacefully.
