A 43-year-old man is nursing injuries after his right thumb was chopped off, Saturday, in Kisumu.
Bernard Otieno, also sustained head and leg injuries after being injured with a panga when supporters of Masogo/Nyang’oma MCA, Samuel Ong’ow and his rival Habil Nyasuna clashed in Muhoroni at around 5pm.
Otieno was rushed to Ahero sub-county hospital though did not receive medication immediately as medics in the region were on strike following delayed payments.
The victim is a supporter of Homabay woman representative Gladys Wanga’s brother, Nyasuna.
Reports indicate trouble erupted after a team allied to Nyasuna blocked Ong’ow's convoy at Chemelil market when the camp of Nyasuna was celebrating after he got the ODM nomination certificate while Ong’ow's were celebrating after he was cleared to run as an independent candidate.
Ong'ow faulted Nyasuna for confronting him and his supporters after 'stealing' his victory.
“My people were celebrating peacefully after I arrived from Nairobi where I was cleared to run as independent candidate. The blocked my convoy at Chemelil, pelted us with stones and cut people with pangas,” Ong'ow said.
Kisumu county police boss, Titus Yoma, said investigations into the matter had been launched.
