The Kisumu County town service matatu operators are to reduce loud music in the town service vehicles, as it is affecting the hearing of passengers.
The move is being placed to improve human dignity. The aim is to place lower volume on music to entertain passengers without destroying their eardrums.
Kisumu Bunge youth Representative Kevin Oyuga petitioned matatu operators to stop loud music as it was affecting passengers’ hearing in the longterm. He also asked passengers not to tolerate music that was so loud it made matatus reminiscent of discos.
Speaking to a group of journalists yesterday at Bunge La Wanainchi yesterday, Oyuga told matatu operators that loud music was creating havoc, especially when the passengers mind were exhausted after a long day activities.
Low music, according to Oyuga, was more appealing to the exhausted mind.
He continued by urging traffic department to create forums that would see matatu operators sensitized on the importance of having lower volumes in their music.
Human Rights activist John Okello, who was also at the forum challenged, matatatu drivers stating that efforts needed to be made in order to curb loud music in the matatu.
"We need to secure our eardrums by stopping loud music in matatu," said Okello
