Kisumu County Assembly members want the security bill to set up metropolitan police unit and formulate policies to regulate bodaboda operators.
A motion tabled on Wednesday by assembly Chief Whip, Isaya Onyango, over the rampant insecurity cases in Kisumu city.
Onyango said that the floodlight project is not enough adding that the security issues must be given the weight it deserves.
Manyatta B MCA, Nereah Okombo, asked the assembly to come up with policy to regulate the boda boda operators.
"We need to zone this area and give bodaboda operators serial numbers. Some of the boda boda operators are used by criminals to escape crime scene," said Okombo.
Okombo said that insecurity is a big problem especially in his ward.
Maseno MCA, Samuel Okoko, said that senior police officers need to be reshuffled after every three months.
"We need CCTV camera in major highways leaving the town especially Off Kakamega Road, Kashmir Busia highway. This way will be in a position to trace criminals," said Okoko.
Nominated MCA Farida Salim said that the county government should set up metropolitan police unit to help curb the issue of rampant insecurity.
"We should form the County police authority. Petition the senate on the matters of insecurity because it will hurt investments in the county," said Farida.
Kisumu North Ward MCA Caroline Owen who seconded the motion said that insecurity will hurt the investment opportunities in Kisumu County.
It is claimed that Railways resident has been the worst affected by crminal activities.
