Okombo said that banks have the capacity to train their own security officer instead of having APs.

"There are around 20 banks in Kisumu and each is guarded by two AP officer. These officers would provide alternative security to the citizens," said Okombo.

Okombo said that it is worrying that insecurity continues to rise while APs have been left to man banks.

"APs should provide security and do administrative work instead of manning our banks," said Okombo.

Speaking at the county assembly premises on Thursday Okombo also wanted the state to allow chiefs and assistant chief to be trained to handle fire arms.

He noted that currently gangs are armed with sophiscated fire arms hence putting chiefs lives at risk.

"They will be effective if the chiefs are armed especially when doing night patrols," said Okombo.
