Kisumu County assembly has adopted a motion to establish apublic relations office.
Deputy speaker Pamela Jossy said that both Kisumu County service board and the Information Communication and Technology committee should implement the motion to have the office of public relations established.
In a motion moved by Chief Whip Isaiah Onyango and seconded by James Were, the office will deal with propaganda and mend the image of the county assembly.
“This is an office that will deal with issues of ICT, the issues were on social media. We must have a common position of the county done by the Public Relations office,” said Onyango.
“We will develop a strong policy for public relations office that will to deal with issues and communicate with other neighbouring counties,” he added/
The chief whip said that county assembly should set up an Information desk so that members of the public can access information of the activities and events.
Kondele ward representative Gabriel Ochieng said that the office of Public Relations ought to have been established much earlier.
“The public relations of the assembly will ensure that the image of the assembly goes to the public as it is,” said Ochieng.
Kisumu North ward representative Caroline Owen said it was key for them to establish the office.
“The PR office will help the public understand the roles of the county assembly. There is a lot of misconception of the county assembly roles in the public,” said Owen
However, Central Nyakach MCA Elijah Omondi opposed the motion saying that if members do not change their conduct, no amount of Public Relation will change image of the county assembly.
