Kisumu County Assembly has directed the committees of planning and transport to do further research on whether Kisumu Urban Planning (KUP) plans to implement traffic light in the Kisumu Central Business District.
In a motion tabled on Tuesday afternoon by Nyalenda B MCA James Were, Kisumu city needs establishment of traffic lights and signal symbols.
Were said that Kisumu city experiences traffic jams and a lot of accidents occur in town due to lack of proper control of traffic.
The motion was seconded by Ahero MCA Maurice Aloo who said that with the traffic jam it is difficult for one to catch up with the flights at the Kisumu International Airport.
Aloo said that Kisumu Urban Planning has taken too long to implement the traffic light and symbols.
He said pressure needs to be mounted on the executive to implement the traffic lights in Kisumu County.
Nominated MCA Caroline Agwanda said that the traffic lights and symbols should be user friendly to the people living with disability.
"They should install audio and visual applications to assist people with living disability to use the road safely," said Agwanda.
Nominated MCA Aslum Khan said that the county government needs to erect a flyover for Aria Primary school students who are often victims of road accidents.
