Kisumu County Assembly members have resolved to cut costs by having their inductions held either within the county or in nearby counties.
The Assembly’s speaker, Onyango Oloo, said that the Members of the County Assembly do not want to be allied with their forerunners who were criticized by the residents for engaging in extravagant overseas trips in the name of bench making.
“Members of the County Assembly have resolved that they will not engage in wastage of public resources by going on expensive trips” he said.
“We have very resourceful counties like Vihiga, which we can bench mark in,” said Oloo.
The speakers’ statements come amid an onslaught launched on the MCA’s by locals particularly through the social media discourses.
“County MCAs will not use taxpayers for their tours, those wishing to go abroad must use their own savings,” affirmed Oloo.
In the course of the last general polls, only two out of the 35 elected MCA’s succeeded to take back their seats, a situation generally ascribed to their deluxe way of life.
For the moment, the MCA’s have also agreed to act as agents for National Super Alliance (NASA) in the course of October 17 Presidential polls.
At the helm of the house, speaker Onyango Oloo, Market Milimani ward MCA Seth Ochieng and his Nyalenda counterpart Joakim Oketch, the MCA’s stated they will galvanize support to ensure that Raila Odinga unseats incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta.
