Failure by the National Assembly to pass a Bill on gender has sparked mixed reactions among women of the Kisumu County Assembly who have termed it as sabotage to the attainment of gender balance as enshrined in the constitution.

This is the second time the bill has failed to sail through after failing to get the required threshold in a voting exercise that was marred by abstinence and absenteeism from the male MP's.

According to the MCAs, the decision by majority of male MPs failure to participate in the voting process was in bad faith; something they said is breach of the provisions in the constitution.

ODM nominated MCA Susan Adhiambo Omolo said the male MPs are doing all they can to ensure that they perpetrate gender imbalance in various offices, but promised that as women politicians in the country, they will fight for the rights of women but all means as the bill was mainly meant to shield women from too much dominance from men.

‘What happened in Parliament yesterday is regrettable and we cannot continue like this as a country,’ said Mrs Adhiambo.

Her sentiment was supported by Nominated MCAs Faridah Ahmed Salim and Pamela Awuor.
