The forum is aimed at sensitising the members of the assembly on the importance of enforcing construction laws that will promote sustainable socio-economic development.

The assembly acting Majority Leader Marlin Olero on Thursday read a letter from the authority to the members informing them of the intended meeting.

In the letter, the authority asked the members to set a date that is convenience with them for the forum to be held.

Olero told members to quickly come up with a date that will not interfere with the running of the assembly businesses.

The letter which was marked urgent was signed by the authority executive officer Daniel Manduku.

“This letter is marked urgent so I expect members to bring their heads together and propose an appropriate date for the meeting with the authority,” said Olero.

The meeting will come in the wake of fears that constructions going on in the city are not inspected and are prone to collapsing.

City manager Doris Ombara made an announcement that the city lacks the capacity to do an extensive inspection owing to the fact that they have only one officer who is currently on sick leave.

Ombara said city Askaris have assumed his role yet they have no skills to do such a task further alleging that occasionally, those Askaris engage in corruption deals while carrying out an inspection.

“The city is ill-equipped with personnel to effectively carry out its duties and in many instances my officers going for inspection of these building under construction have been attacked by goons hired by some of the developers,” claimed Ombara.

The Manyatta building that came down on Wednesday evening was approved by the city, but no inspection was carried out at the site.
