However, the proposed nine committee members did not meet the two third gender rule and the speaker of the day, Pamela Omino, ordered the motion mover to ensure that it is achieved.

Omino said on Tuesday afternoon that after the gender rule is addressed, then the committee should come up with a report and table it in the house within 30 days.

The motion to establish an ad-hoc committee to investigate the bodaboda industry was tabled by Ahero MCA Maurice Aloo earlier and seconded by Wawidhi MCA Moses Ochele.

Aloo said the industry is facing a myriad problems that need to be tackled and if possible make it flourish.

“I do appreciate the importance this industry plays in the economy of this county by providing employment opportunity to our youths and income generation to our county among others,” he said.

Aloo said the committee should be able to study and analyse the impact of the industry to the county's economy and provide various legislations that would ensure that the industry runs smoothly.

“This can be through registration of members, routing and security issues,” he said.

Nominated MCA Caroline Ogot who supported the motion said that the industry needs to be regulated adding that many people are victims of bodaboda accidents.

"The industry has its strengths and weaknesses. It’s a source of employment to the youth but it is associated with negatives such as rape and robbery," said Ogot.

East Seme MCA Aggrey Ogosi said  bodaboda needs to be registered, have particular uniforms and be taxed.

"Mr Speaker in other counties, bodaboda riders pay taxes. It is only in Kisumu County where they don't pay taxes,” he said.
