Kisumu’s Port Florence Hospital Medical Officer Dr. Polycarp Koyanda noted that most male adults contract the lifestyle illness after long period of heavy alcohol consumption.
Speaking to this writer at the medical facility today, Koyanda explained that diabetes
He said that the illness is normal caused by the insulin hormonal dysfunction and noted that alcohol lowers the body immunity.
The medic further explained that the illness can be contracted through hormonal imbalance or passed down from one generation to the next.
“Diabetes may be inherited from parent or a grandparent but it will be recessive in the body. The gene may be made dominant through things like alcohol, the food we eat or the kind of lifestyle that we lead such as lack of exercises,” explained the medic.
He challenged the residents to go for early check-ups to detect the illness early enough and avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
He added that is very dangerous especially for one diagnosed with diabetes to drink too much alcohol as it distorts the insulin hormone functioning.
