Eight minors have been charged with being in possession of crude weapons.
The eight were arraigned in court on Wednesday morning, and were charged with being in possession of knives and machetes on Friday night.
The court heard that the children, from various schools in Maseno were found with the weapons in Nyawita village, Kisumu West subcounty, while going for the funeral of a teacher.
Police officers who were on patrol are said to have found them, and could not explain what the intentions of the weapons were.
Appearing before Maseno Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphine Okundi, the eight were slapped with a Sh100,000 bond with sureties of similar amounts, but their parents and guardians could not immediately raise the amount.
The minors are said to have been in company of a 19-year-old, who tried to disguise himself as a child.
The 19-year-old denied the charges and was handed a Sh300,000 bond with similar surety.
“The doctors have found out that apart from the first eight suspects, the ninth is a 19-year-old and will thus be charged as an adult,” said the Magistrate.
The parents to the minors could not believe the amount they were told to pay, with others saying they barely afford survive with the hard economic times.
