Legislators in Kisumu are urging police to hasten their investigations after allegations that Jubilee supporters were buying IDs prior to the upcoming October 17 poll.

According to reports, two individuals were caught by a mob in Awasi and Ahero for allegedly buying IDs for Sh1,000 and Sh5,000.

Nyando MP Jared Okello says the issue should be addressed by the police as soon as possible.

“The Constitution is clear that you cannot suppress people’s voting and political rights. Political rights are rights that cannot be controlled by any government agencies or any individuals. What they are doing is a crime,” Okello said as quoted by The Star.

Okello claims Jubilee fears defeat hence the reason they are out to reduce NASA’s votes.

He also called upon the IEBC and security teams to take ID buying claims very seriously.

“If you buy or give people money, that is called undue influence within the context of electoral laws and that is punishable and leads to five years in jail, a Sh1 million fine, or both,” Okello said.

Okello called on both parties to square out their battle using the ballot.
