Kisumu MPs have asked president Uhuru Kenyatta to resolve the stalemate relating to the Sh4.2 billion Lake Basin Development Authority Mall during his visit to the county, Tuesday.
The legislators want the Head of State explain to the residents when the mall is intended to opened to create employment for the youths.
According to MPs Fred Outa (Nyando), James Nyikal (Seme), Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja) and Shaurimoyo-Kaloleni MCA Prisca Misachi, businesses are hurting due to the delay of handing over the shopping precinct.
Addressing a press conference Sunday, the MPs, led by Outa, claimed there is a plot to sell the mall to “powerful individuals” in the government.
“The mall is built using taxpayers’ money and it must be put to use. We will demonstrate against the plot to auction the mall,” Outa said.
Tuskys supermarket is among renters who have booked space at the mall.
