The police boss said the police officers were only deployed to the streets of Kisumu to give protester the protection that they need during protests.

"I am not aware of any brutality and inhumanity that my officers showed. What I know is that we deployed them to man the streets and to protect the businesses in the area as most of them tend to take advantage of the chaotic scenes to wreak havoc on people's businesses which is not good for development," Mr Mshimba said in a statement.

The OCPD however, cautioned residents to be careful with their future conduct as the police will use 'all means possible' to make the city calm and orderly.

"We cannot allow the town to be under the control of bandits. This culture of unnecessary demonstrations will not be allowed here under my watch."

The statement however, was not received well by residents and the politicians in the county.
