Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party agents who participated in the last General Election from Kisumu County now want to be considered for job opportunities in the devolved unit.
At a meeting held at the Nyanza regional headquarters chaired by the former chief campaigner for Kisumu Governor Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o, Nerry Achar, the agents said they were ready to support National Super Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga in the fresh Presidential election set for October 17.
Achar assured the agents that they would not only be used for the upcoming presidential elections but would be given precedence over any employment opportunities in the county.
Achar said the Governor has plans to ensure that devolution is fully broadened up to the village level. This will be done through the constitution of village councils consisting of five members with representation from the youth, middle aged and the old.
“Through the creation of village councils, area residents will be directly involved in deciding on their community needs to be implemented,” said Achar.
Giving an example of how employment would be generated through ventures such as road maintenance units, will be done by locals as opposed to external contractors.
“The county government projects started by the previous governor are in progress and the governor’s office is committed to completing them, as they plan on rolling out new programmes,” said Achar.
