An Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) official in Kisumu has accused the police of colluding with criminals that have been harassing locals.
Kisumu ODM County chairman Dave Okwach said that the police were working with unnamed managers of banks and criminals to steal money from unsuspecting residents.
Okwach claimed that when one wants to make a huge withdrawal, the bank manager would tip off the police who would immediately swing into action.
“You cannot withdraw more than Sh100,000 at any bank because they will arrest you and tell you of a ridiculous charge. They would then dump you at Miwani after stealing your hard-earned money,” a visibly angry Okwach said at Jomo Kenyatta grounds during the Mashujaa Day celebrations.
The party official demanded for the immediate transfer of the police involved in the criminal activities.
“If a police man or a CID is helping or involved in crime, they should be sent away immediately,” he said.
However, county commissioner Erastus Ekidor dismissed the claims as unfounded.
“Leaders should be the first to give direction, not level claims on the police. Let us use community policing to help curb crime,” he said.
