Kisumu County government has partnered with Plan International to build modern Early Child Development facilities in the county.
Kisumu Governor Ranguma said that county plans to build at least one ECD centre in every ward.
"We would like to have a strong partnership with the Plan International to anchor our agenda as a county on those areas they have agreed to support," said Governor Ranguma.
Governor Ranguma is set to employ 700 ECD assistant teachers despite the court order resisting employment of ECD teachers.
He said that the most neglected institution is the ECD and his government will develop modern ECDs centers to encourage our children to go to school.
Ranguma said, "We are under-resourced we have started with a few in every sub county. Our desire is to have at least one modern ECD in every ward so that people can see what to expect of the modern ECD."
"They are strongly supporting early childhood development, primary school, supporting health, children protection and livelihood around the children," Ranguma added.
Currently the German government under GIZ programme is constructing full modern facilities for ECD.
Plan International Country Director Carol Sherman said the organisation allocates funds for bursary for needy children who perform well in the exams.
Sherman said, "We heard Kisumu County has major plans for ECD centres and have more teaching assistants in schools. We want to make sure that children have nutrition and we are able to provide nutrition."
