Stephen Kinyanjui of the Amani Pentecostal church denied that he obtained a sum of Sh100,000 from a member before chief magistrate Esther Maina.

Kinyajui is alleged to have promised Lameck Otieno that he was going to pray for him so that his hardware business expands.

According to the prosecution, Kinyajui received the money on the December 21 last year in Kisumu and after prayers, nothing happened to Otieno’s business as it remained stagnated.

Following pressure from Otieno, Kinyajui went into hiding. That was when it was realised that he had swaddled his worshipper money, the court heard.

The matter was reported to the police, who arrested him last week on Friday in Kisumu’s Migosi estate.

Kinyajui asked the court to dismiss the case as the miracle is still going to work, saying God’s work should not be hurried.

He claimed that he never went to hiding but he had taken some time off to concentrate on private matters that affected his family.

He was released on a cash bail of Sh25,000 with surety of a similar amount pending the hearing of the case on June 26.
