The County government of Kisumu has come to the defense of the latest mode of payment, which now requires all members of government staff to submit documentation in order to access their salaries.
This has come as a deliberate move by the county government to eliminate ghost workers that continue to fleece the county off millions of shillings.
Speaking to Kisumu residents after meeting health workers who were against the mode of payment, Governor Jack Ranguna said he reached a consensus with the health workers that the step taken was meant mainly to weed out ghost workers.
Ranguna announced that since the exercise commenced, they have been able to detect foul play, in which dead people still continued to receive payment.
“No member of the county staff should feel suspicious about the new payment mode, it is only there to ensure that the correct number of staff is paid,” he added.
The move to pay staff using chequs elicited mixed reactions, with many against the move.
