Police in Kisumu have been asked to control commercial sex business in the town.

Kisumu Medical and Education Trust (KMET) director, Peter Apamo, said that there was need to control the rising number of sex workers in the lakeside city.

Speaking to the press at KMET offices on Sunday, the Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) worker noted that young girls were resorting to commercial sex and this was very dangerous.

He said that the HIV/AIDS prevalence in the county needed to be reduced and the first step towards the same was through control of the vice at night.

Apamo asked the police to control the vice to enable the female residents to engage in more productive activities.

“When we talk about high HIV prevalence in Kisumu and how to reduce it, the first mass step we need to do is to control the commercial sex business that is today extremely rampant in Kisumu. This is why we are asking the police to help us in this fight to bring back sanity in our society again,” he said.

He added that KMET strongly supports the arrests of the sex workers as young girls need to resort to more productive ways of living their lives and looking for income.
