Sanity is set to return on Kisumu roads after the police announced a thorough inspection at the main stage next to Kisumu Boys High school wall.
Kisumu regional Traffic Police Enforcement officer Joshua Omukata announced the commencement of serious police inspection at the major roads in the town.
Omukata said that the exercise is aimed at ensuring that matatu operators observe the set down traffic rules.
Speaking to the press in his Central police headquarters today, Omukata noted that the town service matatu operators at the yellow line stage next to Kisumu Girls High school do not observe the traffic rules and make dangerous turns.
This, he said endangers the lives of other road users who are unaware of the intended turns made by the matatus.
“We are launching the inspection exercise tomorrow to ensure that matatu operators observe the traffic rules along the major yellow line stage that runs from Kisumu Boys High School to Kisumu Girls High School wall. We have to ensure that the safety of other road users is first guaranteed before any other thing,” he said.
He issued a stern warning to those found breaking the traffic rules during the exercise and said that they risk immediate arrests and fine penalties.
