[Photo/the-star]Kisumu politicians have condemned an attack where police officers harassed and clobbered journalists during Nasa's anti-IEBC demos in the county on Monday. The leaders led by Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathews Owili, they said police are supposed to protect members of the fourth estate while in their line of duty.Owili termed the attack as ‘unconstitutionally backward act'.He further called on stern action on officer who assaulted journalists." “Stern action must be taken against officers who assaulted journalists,” Owili said.On his part, Nyando Member of Parliament Jared Okello noted that reporters should be allowed to discharge their duties without being harassed or intimidated. Journalists who were injured during the attack include KTN's journalist Rashid Ronald, Star reporter Faith Matete, NTV’s Ouko Okusa, his camera person Doreen Magak, Daily Nation reporter Rushdie Oudia, aStandard Media Group photo journalist and Kisumu Journalists Network chairman Dickson Odhiambo.
