Nyando MP Fred Outa has declared interest to run for the Kisumu Senatorial seat in 2017.
The declaration may complicate things for the incumbent Governor Jack Ranguma who will be banking on the Kano clan vote to deliver him to hand him a second term in office.
The two come from the same clan and since the balancing of the positions across the seven sub-counties of Kisumu will be at play, the move will complicate Ranguma's political calculations.
If the Senate seat went to Kano, the governor's seat will automatically not go there but will instead go to either Nyakach, or Seme where Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o comes from.
Prof Nyongo has declared his intention to run for governor.
“I have served as an MP for two terms which will be ten years in 2017, now the residents of Kisumu County want me to graduate to a bigger position which is the Senate,” said Outa during a radio talk show on Sky FM on Friday.
Other candidates who have declared their candidature for the same seat are Otieno Odongo who is a civil engineer under the company Otieno Odongo and Partners while Ochola Ogoda is a Quantity Surveyor at Songa Ogoda and Associates Company.
The two contested the same seat in 2013 but lost to Prof Nyong’o during the Orange Democratic Movement nominations.
