Governor Jack Ranguma has said the Port of Kisumu is set to resume operations before 2018.

The port will start operating as soon as the ongoing facelift exercise is completed.

Ranguma also said the national government and the Kenya Ports Authority have set aside enough funds to see to it that the port is working.

The Kisumu Port has been useful to the economy of Kisumu County and the whole nation.

Addressing the media, the governor said the port will play a pivotal role towards the Kenyan economy once the face lifting is completed.

“The port will improve transshipment of goods from one region to the other and will stir regional economic growth,” said Ranguma.

The port will also promote business in different parts of the country.

“Kisumu port remains the largest in East Africa and we intend to put in measures that will ensure that locals benefit from the facility,” he said.
