Religious leaders from Kisumu have warned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) against pronouncing the winner of the presidential polls before solving all concerns raised concerning tallying procedure.
Winnie Owiti, the Archbishop Voice of Healing and Salvation, said that the IEBC should treat the concerns about the tallying process with reverence to avoid whipping-up tension and unrest.
"The law is very candid that the IEBC results transmission is supplemented by form 34A. It was therefore distressing when Wafula Chebukati, the chairman IEBC, came out in public and professed that the results announced were yet to be verified,” she said.
This, she said was evidence enough that the numbers transmitted were not genuine.
Owiti added that the state raises serious concerns about the integrity of the polls and was likely to lead to animosity.
"The forms in question must have been conveyed to the national tallying center at the end of totaling so what transpired to them?" she posed.
The Archbishop stated that the conduct of the post-election exercise was dubious urging the IEBC to clear the air if the whole procedure is to be seen as credible, free and fair.
He asked the IEBC to conduct the continuing process with due diligence so that all anxieties raised are solved.
"It is not all about proceeding to court if unsatisfied, IEBC was not supposed to create a prospect for that possibility," she said.
