Residents of Kogony in North Kisumu Ward are now appealing to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to compensate the family of a school boy who was attacked by a crocodile in the area. A 14 year old class 7 pupil at Usoma primary school was attacked by the crocodile while he and his colleagues had gone to bath at the lake shore on Wednesday evening. This comes as rescue operations by KWS and other volunteers are still underway at the Usoma beach to retrieve the body. Secretary of Kogony Land Council of Elders Maurice Roche said the family should be compensated by relevant agencies for the loss. Roche said there have been several human- wildlife conflict cases along the lake shore of lake Victoria adding that something must be done to stop such attacks. Speaking in Kisumu on Friday, Roche also faulted the slow response in the search and rescue of the boy who has not been found up to this morning.“There is no commitment from the search team, seems as if they have given up,” he said. The boy’s father Thomas Onyango has today recorded statement with the police at the central police station as the search continues.
