Kisumu environmentalists on Tuesday challenged Kisumu dwellers to plant more trees during the rainy season.
Kisumu environmental officer Willis Ouko speaking on Tuesday at Tom-Mboya Labour college at a tree planting awareness creation event, asked locals to be environmental friendly by planting more trees especially during the raining seasons.
The environmentalist stated that trees were very essential in our environment as they act as filters and keep the air fresh by absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen. Their roots also stabilize the soil and prevent erosion.
“We need to practice tree planting in our environment by planting more trees especially during this rainy season, as trees also provide food, shade and shelter to human and wildlife,” Ouko said.
Tom Ogweno, an environmentalist, also noted that locals should embrace tree planting especially during the rainy season noting that trees were important as they act as sound barriers by reducing noise pollution.
He further challenged locals to beautify the environment by planting more trees.
