Residents of Kajulu in Kisumu county have been left stranded after the bridge connecting Mamboleo to Miwani was damaged following a heavy downpour in the area.
Speaking to KTN news on Sunday, the residents asked the government to help them address the situation.
"We have encountered too much loss since the heavy downpour as livestock have been swept away. The bridge is almost falling off. So we are asking the government to help us repair it before it is completely brought down," said Philip Onyango, a resident of Kambogo area.
The locals noted that the current situation has negatively affected transport and business activity in the area.
"I am a boda boda operator here in Guba. This water has killed so many people right from its source up there to this place. We have lost crops and livestock as well.
"Our earnings have gone down because we are not able to work due to the bridge which is in poor condition yet we are paying tax. Businesses have since stalled. We are therefore asking Uhuru and Raila to address the issue," said Jackson Lekea.
The locals are now asking Uhuru and Raila to make use of the handshake in order to help them avert more loses.
"For the past three days we have lost quite a lot especially cows and goats. The bridge is cut off such that the motorists are not able to use it because it is unsafe. Our crops have been damaged as well so we are asking the government to help us," said Linet, a resident.
